The Water Performance Academy is an entity of The Water Group, focused on helping organizations improve performance.

Organizations (and therefore, their leaders) are measured on how “well” they "perform." Exactly how performance is measured and the criteria on which the measurement is based can vary greatly from one organization to the next, depending on such factors as: the industry in which the organization operates; whether the organization is in the private or public sector; the condition of the organization when the leader joins; the environment in which the business operates; whether the organization is privately-held or publicly trade; and other determinants.

In most organizations—specifically in the private sector—the performance of an organization is measured against some performance criteria. Whether it’s quantitative metrics such as earnings growth, stock performance, earnings per share, sales targets, and market share growth, or qualitative metrics such as customer satisfaction, management “style,” or some combination of all of the above, whatever the approach, the operative term used when gauging performance is the measurement of that performance.
Measurement is a vehicle used to ascertain the degree to which one’s performance meets some desired standard of that performance. What is implicit in this statement is that one’s performance is based on metrics, which are parameters or measures of quantitative assessment used to track performance. Performance metrics are specific to an organization’s purpose and directly related its goals. But mostly, performance metrics are designed to measure success or failure.

The WPA's sole focus is helping organizations improve performance, however it is measured, in four primary areas:

1. Revenue growth / sales improvement
2. Margin enhancement
3. Attracting & retaining customers
4. Business process improvement

And we do this through our "P.E.M.A." framework: Plan. Execute. Monitor. Adjust.

PLAN
Our performance improvement approach begins with a planning effort to define the purpose of the improvement effort and how it will be determined whether or not performance has actually been improved.

EXECUTE
Execution is focused on accomplishing the goals defined in the planning effort, and it begins with an assessment or benchmark of the organization's current state of operation; areas of waste, inefficiency, high cost, and sub-optimal performance.

MONITOR
We work with the organization to monitor its performance against the plan.

ADJUST
We work with the organization to make adjustments to the plan as necessary based on its progress against the plan.
